Présentation

• La route nationale 174, ou RN174, est une route nationale française qui relie actuellement la RN13 à l'A84, entre Saint-Pellerin (Carentan-les-Marais), Saint-Lô et Guilberville. Elle fait partie de l'axe européen E03.
• C'est depuis 2012 une voie express sur l'intégralité de son parcours, son aménagement ayant débuté une dizaine d'années plus tôt.

Historique

Généralités

• À sa création, en 1824, elle est définie comme la route de Cherbourg à Vire et à Nantes. Elle s'embranche près de Carentan, sur la route n° 13, de Paris à Cherbourg, et joint aux abords et en avant de Vire, la route n° 177, de Caen à Redon. La partie à la sortie de Saint-Lô appartient à la route n° 172, de Granville à Bayeux. Elle succède alors à la Route impériale 194.
• En 1978, elle est précisée comme étant la route de Vire, à Carentan, N. 13.
• Elle a conservé ce parcours jusqu'à la réforme de 2005.
• À cette date, la section Guilberville - Vire, en cul-de-sac depuis la réforme de 1972, a été déclassée.

Aménagements

• Aménagement entre la RN13 et l'A84 : voir ci-après à la rubrique "voie express".
• Créneau de dépassement au Nord de Sainte-Marie-Laumont : 2022.
• Déviation d'Étouvy : 1974.
